What the PCB announced on 23 October 2026
The Pakistan Cricket Board has set out the full road to HBL PSL 12. The direct-signing window opened on 23 October 2026 and closes on 23 November 2026. The player auction follows on 23 January 2027. The tournament itself runs from Thursday 18 March to Sunday 2 May 2027 — 44 matches across 46 days, with 40 league fixtures and four playoff matches at five to six venues.
Each of the eight franchises may directly sign one marquee overseas player during the window, provided that player did not feature in either PSL 10 (2025) or PSL 11 (2026). The rule is designed to bring fresh overseas names into the league rather than recycle the same pool.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi described the edition as the league's most ambitious yet, with the tournament reaching more cities than before. PSL CEO Salman Naseer also confirmed the wider venue footprint.
What happens next
A franchise workshop is scheduled to settle the remaining recruitment rules: the retention deadline (franchises may retain up to seven players under the published framework), the pre-auction trade window, auction regulations and playing conditions. The PCB has also aligned the National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments as talent-identification events, giving domestic performers a visible pathway into the auction pool.
The match-by-match fixture list, venue allocations, auction venue and start time, and ticketing details have not been announced yet. Reports place the 2 May final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore; this guide treats that as reported, not confirmed, until the fixture release lands.
Why it matters
PSL 11 changed the league's economics with the first-ever player auction in February 2026 — 103 players sold, Naseem Shah the top auction bid at PKR 8.65 crore, and Steve Smith's reported PKR 14 crore direct signing the biggest deal in league history. PSL 12 is the first season run entirely under the auction system from the start, so the direct-signing window and the January auction will shape the title race before a ball is bowled. Defending champions Peshawar Zalmi, who beat Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL 11 final, are the team everyone is building to beat.
