Eleven seasons, six champions, one league that changed Pakistani cricket
Latest PSL updates →The Pakistan Super League was launched by the PCB in 2016 with five franchises and a simple problem to solve: Pakistan's own T20 league, staged in the UAE because international cricket had left home. Islamabad United won the first final in Dubai. A year later the final came to Lahore — a single match that signalled cricket's return — and Peshawar Zalmi won it in front of a home crowd. From there the league grew roots: finals in Karachi, a sixth team in Multan, full seasons on home soil, and by 2026 an eight-team league with a player auction and two new franchises.
The honours board is unusually democratic. Six of the eight current franchises have lifted the trophy, and the two most successful — Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars, three titles each — built their dynasties in completely different ways and eras. No team has won three in a row; Lahore's back-to-back titles in 2022–23 remain the only successful defence.
