Kusal Mendis was named in the Peshawar Zalmi squad for the first eight-team season in league history, a group that finished the league stage in first place with 1 points. Zalmi then converted that dominance into the title, beating Hyderabad Kingsmen in the final.
Kusal Mendis profile
Kusal Mendis shared a 191-run partnership with Babar Azam in PSL 11, listed as the highest partnership in PSL history, and was named wicketkeeper in the PCB's PSL 2026 Team of the Tournament.
A keeper-batter's batting position tells you how a franchise rates the gloves. Top-four keepers are franchise cornerstones; lower-order keepers are finishers who happen to wear pads behind the stumps too.
There is a pattern to players who arrive via county and franchise cricket across several leagues, a route that hardens players to unfamiliar conditions quickly. They tend to be tactically literate early, and in this case the workload is managed like a senior professional's, whatever the birth certificate says.
Selection logic at Peshawar Zalmi starts with balance, and Babar Azam's sides usually reflect it: the top order is given licence early and accountability late.

The Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Peshawar factor is real in this league: local knowledge of bounce, dew and boundary sizes is worth runs before a ball is bowled, and Peshawar Zalmi lean on it at home.
Kusal Mendis and PSL 12
Neutral fans should circle Peshawar Zalmi's fixtures against Hyderabad Kingsmen: those are the games where selection gambles get exposed, and where squad depth stops being a theory. Form in the National T20 pathway events also matters now, with the PCB using them as a talent-identification route into the auction.
